'40 Earl T. Gresham Jr. (ME) retired as president from E. T. Gresham Co. Inc. He now serves as board chairman. '58 D. Ray Salyer (ME) retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after 42 years of service as an engineer and engineering manager in the nuclear engineering division. '64 G. Andrew Cleek (ME) retired as manager of Neon/PT Cruiser Climate Control Engineering after 35 years of service in the vehicle engineering organization, DaimlerChrysler, Auburn Hills, Mich. '65 L. D. Bowers Jr. (DE) will assume "Of Counsel" status with the firm of Wilson & Bowers and will continue in his position as substitute judge in the general district courts of the 26th Judicial Circuit. G. G. Brummitt (METE) retired after 35 years of service as a metallurgical engineer with Armco Steel/AK Steel in Ashland, Ky. Curtis E. Chadwick III (ME) was promoted to manager of petroleum and marine sales for Latin America for Caterpillar Americas Co. Michael P. Swain (ME) was named president, Alcoa Wheel Products Japan Ltd. and general manager, Alcoa Wheel Products Asia-Pacific. Mike and his wife, Jane, have relocated to Tokyo, Japan. Alfred W. Woody (ME) was elected to senior associate/stockholder by Albert Kahn Associates Inc. '66 Richard L. Zirk (AGE) has been selected as DCMDE's new deputy commander. '67 R. A. Boynton (ARCH) was reappointed by Gov. James S. Gilmore III to the Virginia Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers, and Landscape Architects. '68 John F. Farley (BAD) retired as foreign service officer after 27 years of service. D. Laurence Rubini (PSCI) retired from the U.S. Army Reserve. He served in Desert Storm, Haiti, and Central America and is a U.S. administrative law judge in Philadelphia. '69 Gary W. Crawford (BAD) retired from the USAF after 30 years of service and is chief administrative officer for the Department of Animal Science at UC-Davis. D. A. Throckmorton (ASE) has been named deputy manager of the Structures, Mechanics and Thermal Department in the Engineering Directorate of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. Roslyn H. Wingett (HIST) retired from the Martinsville, Va., school system on July 1, 2000, as facilitator for Success for All, Patrick Henry Elementary. '70 Kathryn A. Hall (FL) was hired as assistant professor of English at Valdosta State University. She received her Ph.D. from Florida State University in 1999. '71 Ralph H. Thurman (ECON) was named chairman of the board and CEO of Viasys Healthcare Inc., a world leader in respiratory and neuroscience technology. '72 Christopher J. Bise (MINE) was named a distinguished member of SME and was the recipient of Penn State's George and Anne Deike Chair. Clifford E. Smith (ASE) will be honored by ASME International and is being recognized for a paper he co-authored entitled "Passive Control of Combustion Instability in Lean Premixed Combustors." He will receive the society's Gas Turbine Award. '73 Scott D. Corbin (ARCH) was elected to stockholder and principal at Hart Freeland Roberts, a multidisciplinary architectural and engineering firm. He is a vice president and runs the Midwest office in Kansas City. William A. Gresham (ME) is the third-generation president of the family company E.T. Gresham Co. Inc. '75 Richard Wells Gresham (ARCH) is the newly-elected secretary of the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation as well as one of the foundation's directors. He is also vice president of the E. T. Gresham Co. Betty J. Harris (MICR) retired from Virginia Wesleyan College. She served as professor of microbiology and biochemistry and as the pre-medical adviser. She was also the chair of the Division of Natural Sciences & Mathematics. James B. Watts (UA) was a featured speaker at the Swedish National Crime Prevention Network meeting in Vasteras, Sweden. He is working on a joint research project with the Swedish police. Garry C. Zettersten (ESEN) was promoted to chief, program management division, Office of the Chief of Staff, Engineering, Directorate of Public Works, headquarters of the U.S. Army, Europe. '76 Louis E. Berkowitz (ACCT) is director of consulting with Goodman Consulting, a division of Goodman & Co. E. Ann Bristow (FW) is the telecommunications specialist at GSA. James R. Clark (BIOL) was promoted to distinguished scientific associate at ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Co. Frances J. Moorer (CTRA) received an M.B.A. with honors from Regis University, with an emphasis in e-commerce and operations 2001, and was inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, honor society of Jesuit colleges and universities. '77 Gregory B. Jones (ACCT) was named senior vice president and chief credit officer for NetBank Inc. Brittain P. Mallow (SOC) is the deputy commander of the Army Criminal Investigations Command. Sandra J. Zettersten (ARCH) was promoted to client services director for Buchart-Horn GmbH, an architectural engineering firm in Eschborn, Germany. '78 Ralph E. Mirarchi (FW) is professor of wildlife science at Auburn University and was recently named the William R. and Fay Ireland Distinguished Professor of Wildlife Science in the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences. Jane T. Walker (CTRA) received her Ph.D. from UNC-Greensboro. '79 Douglas E. Gehley (ARCH) was promoted to principal of Einhorn Yaffee Prescott, Architecture and Engineering, P.C. Eric J. Shaw (PSYC) received his Ph.D. in humanities from Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I., in December 2000. Cmdr. Shaw is currently the U.S. Coast Guard liaison to the Navy Warfare Development Command at the Naval War College. Edward G. Tezak (ESM) was named the American Society for Engineering Education's Outstanding Teacher/Educator of the Year. '80 Peggy K. Morrison (UA) was elected president of K. W. Poore & Associates. C. Robert Neal (ARCH) was promoted to principal at Cooper Carry Inc. '81 Steven B. Jones (ACCT) is the director of technology for the town of Blacksburg, Va. He is working with the town and Anderson & Associates to implement a networking infrastructure overhaul. John D. Mashburn (BAD) argued before the U.S. Supreme Court as lead counsel on behalf of C&L Enterprises Inc., in the case of C&L Enterprises Inc. v. Citizen Band Potawatomi Indian Tribe of Oklahoma. David G. Pollock Jr. (AGE) was selected by undergraduate students in civil and environmental engineering as the recipient of the Outstanding Teaching Faculty Award in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Washington State University, for the year 2000. '82 Donna M. Fernandez (EDVT) was elected parliamentarian for the Virginia Western Region of the Business and Professional Women's Organization. She will be the corresponding secretary at the state level. Mark S. Zitz (ACCT) is the Mid-Atlantic president for Cavalier Telephone of Maryland and Pennsylvania. '83 James R. Goodwin IV (EE) received an award at the Pentagon from the Defense Standardization Program for outstanding contributions to the Department of Defense as an electronics engineer with the U.S. Navy. Patrick S. Severo (BIOL) has joined Sutro & Co. as senior vice president, investments at its Hollywood, Calif., branch office. '84 Thomas P. Lanagan (IEOR) was appointed to lead the contract management group with DORRA. Clayton W. Preston (ARCH) is an architect and founding owner of Village Habitat Design, LLC, the recipient of the 2001 National AIA and HUD Award for Smart Growth. Charles J. Westgate III (AOE) was promoted to lt. col. in the USAF and has taken command of the 654th Combat Logistics Support Squadron at Tinker AFB, Okla. '85 Deborah A. Baum (CHE) was promoted to business unit director, chemical synthesis, in the Performance Chemicals and Intermediates Organization at Eastman Chemical Co. Derek A. Emmerson (POUL) was promoted to vice president of research and development for Aviagen North America. Michael D. Miller (ARCH) was promoted to principal at Smith Garrett Architects in Charlottesville, Va. With the firm since February 1998, he is responsible for projects ranging from high-end custom residential to health and fitness centers. John J. Sullivan (AOE) was selected for promotion to lt. col. in the USAF. '86 K. Brooks Ballance (BC) was promoted to director of operations of the Richmond office of W. M. Jordan Co. Mark D. Burrows (HIST) completed his M.B.A. at George Mason University and is currently a business and training developer for Science Applications International Corp. Eddie G. Ray (ACCT) has joined Bentley College as trustee professor in the Department of Accountancy. '87 Martha C. Dennis (COMM) is the vice president and senior counsel at Merrill Lynch Europe, Plc. in London. Kenneth L. Turner (PHED) has taken the position of arena sales manager for Basketball Products International. He is responsible for basketball equipment sales in college and NBA markets. '88 Dana Q. Boyd (LASC) is president and CEO of a national medical research foundation, the Sarnoff Endowment for Cardiovascular Science. Xiang Chen (STS) received tenure from California Lutheran University. Anthony J. Morosini (IEOR) was named vice president and managing director of the Western Region for Aptegrity, Inc. promoted to partner and director of the Insurance Coverage and Insurance Fraud Section of Kalbaugh, Pfund & Messersmith, P.C. '89 David H. Baker (PSCI) is president and CEO of Exit 1 Inc.-Expert Internet Technology, an internet solutions provider. Robert M. Brown (SYSE) serves as commander of the Defense Contract Management Command in Baltimore. He participated in the U.S. Army's 225th birthday celebration, held at DCM Manassas. Stephen C. Caldwell (CS) received an M.S. in information systems from George Mason University. He also received a certificate in software systems engineering. Christopher W. Clothier (MGT) was promoted to the position of vice president, information technology for Sterling Commerce Inc. Scott D. Ehrig (COMM) was promoted to assistant treasurer and investment officer, responsible for the active management of trust and investment portfolios for J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. Sandra C. Gonzalez (MATE) was named manager, heat treat, in the Timken Co.'s automotive business at the Lincolnton Bearing Plant in Lincolnton, N.C. Lance F. Grenevicki (BIOL) passed the oral examination by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and is now board certified. Ray A. Mottley (CE) was promoted to the rank of maj., USAF. John A. Murphy (ARCH) was part of a professional panel in Richmond that presented various aspects of the design-build project delivery method. James L. Richardson (FIN) was promoted to vice president of credit administration with CitiCapital, a unit of CitiGroup. Michael E. Weber (ARCH) was selected as the director of national accounts for Fiberstars Inc. '90 Scott C. Asbury (AE) joined Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. in Westminster, Colo. as a program manager for telemetry, tracking, and command antennas in the Advanced Antennas and Video Systems Division. Christina M. Motley (COMM) is the Sweepstakes Award winner in the Virginia Press Women's Annual Communications Contest. She received 12 first-place awards, four second-place awards, and one third-place award. Michael T. Poole (LAR) accepted a position with the Department of Corrections as its NT systems manager for the western, northern, and eastern regions. William H. Wade Jr. (EE) received his master of divinity from the Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America. He is the assistant pastor at Parkview Church in Lilburn, Ga. '91 Joanne N. Franks (BION) passed the board certification exam to become a member of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
