When circumstances change, challenges arise, and calls for assistance go out, Virginia Tech leans into the motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).
With World War I raging in Europe, the War Department had turned the Blacksburg campus into a Students’ Army Training Corps site. Battles raged over what would be taught ultimately resulting in all of VPI’s four-year courses of study being ditched in favor of two-year courses. But just when the environment seemed to be settling into a positive routine, a new threat emerged in Blacksburg, creating even more chaos. The 1918 flu outbreak resulted in the Fieldhouse being turned into a hospital.
The university’s flagship publication, Virginia Tech Magazine forges stronger relationships among alumni, donors, and friends of Virginia Tech. The magazine highlights the vibrancy of a university on the leading edge of technology, service, learning, research, and scholarship and showcases the achievements of alumni, faculty and staff, and students through a rich array of feature stories, alumni profiles, and university and alumni news. Virginia Tech Magazine is published quarterly by the Office of University Relations, with support from Alumni Relations. The Virginia Tech Foundation underwrites most production costs.
