												FACULTY AND FRIENDS DEATHS
MILOS HUDLICKY, professor emeritus of chemistry, died Aug. 31. Born in Czechoslovakia, Hudlicky studied at the Institute of Chemical and Technological Engineering at the Technical University in Prague (now the Institute of Chemical Technology of Prague). In 1948, he studied at the Ohio State University on a UNESCO fellowship; when he returned to Prague, he established organofluorine chemistry as a new area of research, one to which he dedicated the rest of life. Hudlicky came to Virginia Tech in 1968 and continued to work in organofluorine chemistry, writing 18 books and publishing 68 scientific articles. He retired in 1989. In 1992, Hudlicky was awarded the Votocek Medal for Merit in Science and Technology by the Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague, one of the highest honors for chemistry in the Czech Republic.
RICHARD D. WORRALL, recently appointed director of Virginia Tech's Northern Virginia Center, died Sept. 23. Worrall enjoyed a long association with Virginia Tech and was currently developing with the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) the "Travel Shenandoah" pilot program. Worrall also was a University Visiting Professor with the Center for Public Administration and Policy, a university Research Fellow in the VTTI, and a Fellow of the Center for Organizational and Technological Advancement. Before joining the faculty at Virginia Tech, he was a senior partner of KPMG Consulting. Worrall also served as a vice president of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), as the CEO of two consulting firms, and as a faculty member at Northwestern University and the University of Wales.
