The Class of 1955 returned to campus Oct. 6-8 to celebrate its 50th Anniversary reunion. Despite being the smallest class following WWII, the Class of 1955 demonstrated great enthusiasm for the reunion with more than 240 class members and guests in attendance. Their class gift was equally impressive: nearly $800,000 was raised to support the new Holtzman Alumni Center,
Solitude,
a University Honors Scholarship, a garden, and a scholarship for the corps. This was the first 50th reunion class to gather in the new alumni and conference center. The alumni also enjoyed tours of campus, including the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute, presentations about the corps and academic programs, and a pass-in-review and memorial service to honor deceased classmates. President Charles Steger joined the class for its 50th reunion banquet, where classmates were inducted into the
Old Guard and invited to the next Old Guard Reunion, May 18-19, 2006. Festivities continued on Saturday with a champagne brunch and celebration of the Hokies victory over Marshall University.
