Class of '58 celebrates 50th reunion
VT Cla ss of '58
More than 300 members of the Class of 1958 and their guests returned to Blacksburg Oct. 2-4 for the class's 50th anniversary. Class members enjoyed a pep rally featuring members of the Class of '58 cheerleading squad along with the current Virginia Tech cheerleaders. Professor James I. Robertson Jr. presented myriad topics ranging from football to the Civil War, and Maj. Gen. Jerry Allen highlighted today's corps of cadets as a feature presentation. A memorial service was held in the War Memorial Chapel, followed by a regimental parade on the Drillfield. President Charles W. Steger joined the class for its reunion banquet when classmates were officially inducted into the Old Guard of the Alumni Association. The festivities continued on Saturday with a pre-game spirit brunch followed by a football victory over Western Kentucky and a post-game celebration.

VT Class of '58 dedicates the class gift
The class gift, which exceeded $1.4 million, includes support for the newly constructed West Campus Signature Gateway, located on both corners of Price's Fork Road and West Campus Drive.

The class gift, which exceeded $1.4 million, includes support for undergraduate scholarships, University Libraries, and the newly constructed West Campus Signature Gateway, located on both corners of Price's Fork Road and West Campus Drive. The gateway, now the principal entrance to campus, creates an excellent impression for potential students, parents, alumni, and other visitors.

Class of '58 Reunion Committee member Ray Powell (mechanical engineering '58) summed up the sentiments of many classmates: "We were extremely appreciative of the reunion programs, their punctuality, and their content that brought today's Virginia Tech to the fore and made us extremely proud of our alma mater. Our alumni staff's attention to our needs again showed us what it means to serve, exemplifying the university motto. The Class of '58, the new Old Guard, had a grand and glorious time and will long remember our 50th reunion."
