Slowinski named Outstanding Young Alumna

Dr. Annette Slowinski (DVM '86), a veterinarian with Peace Corps experience, has been named Virginia Tech Outstanding Young Alumna for 1996. Slowinski has a mixed-animal practice in Buckeystown, Md.

After graduation from Virginia Tech, Slowinski spent three and one-half years serving in Nepal with the Peace Corps, treating rural animals and teaching.

While at the university, Slowinski was class president during three of her four years in vet school. She helped organize an unofficial class reunion in 1991 and a 10-year reunion in 1996. After returning from Nepal, she was president of the Western Maryland Veterinary Medicine Association for two years.

Slowinski consults with Virginia Tech faculty on unusual cases and keeps veterinarian colleagues informed of continuing education opportunities at Tech. When an animal she has treated dies, she often sends a contribution in the animal's honor to Tech's Veterinary Memorial Fund. Back to Contents
