New Alumni Association President Kimble "Jay" Reynolds Jr. (marketing '88; M.S. health and physical education '95), President-Elect James E. Smith (chemistry '66), and Vice President E. Ann Spencer (accounting '76; M.B.A. '84) have begun one-year terms. Reynolds, who received a J.D. from Washington and Lee University, practices law in Martinsville, Va. Smith is self-employed and retired from E.I. DuPont in Wilmington, Del. Spencer is the former associate vice president for administration and personnel at Virginia Tech and currently resides in Wyoming. Also elected to the board's executive committee are Kevin Mottley (political science '93) and Jean Swartz (chemical engineering '86).
Newly elected board members are Dwight Holland (M.S. geophysics '86; M.S. industrial and systems engineering '91; Ph.D. industrial and systems engineering '01), Kevin Leclaire (economics, industrial and systems engineering '95), David Lowe (business administration '63), Wayne Robinson (finance '80), J. Thomas Ryan (biology '68), A. Melissa Smarr (consumer studies and family and child development '00), and John Watkins (horticulture '69). Incumbents elected to a second term are Peter Darby '90, Elizabeth Leonard '80, Kevin Mottley '93, and Coleman Rector '86. Terms are three years.
Homecoming for graduate degree alumni
The Graduate School is planning a "Graduate Degree Alumni Homecoming" gathering prior to the first 2004 football game against Western Michigan on Sept. 11. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the University Club (100 Otey Street), next door to the Donaldson Brown Hotel on campus. Homecomings for all of the colleges are scheduled throughout the football season, but this opening game welcomes all graduate degree alumni who wish to visit with current graduate students and meet members of the Graduate School staff. Nominations sought for new humanitarian award
The Alumni Association has created a special award to acknowledge exceptional volunteerism that betters our society and humanity on a regional, national, or global scale. Virginia Tech alumni who have given generously of their time and talent to enhance the quality of life for others--whether by making it safer and healthier or educationally and culturally richer--deserve to be recognized by their alma mater and fellow alumni. Send your nominations to the Alumni Board of Directors, Alumni Hall, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA 24061. Please include a brief summary of the nominee's commitment to a humanitarian cause and why you feel he/she is deserving of recognition.
Locate alumni online
Visit the Alumni Association's online directory, where you can find other alumni by name, class year, major, and city and state. Because this section is PID and password protected, only alumni can access these records. The same biographical information in the hard copy of the alumni directory is available, although the names of alumni who have opted not to be listed in the online directory will not appear. To view the directory, go to "View and Update My Alumni Profile" at http://www.VaTechAlumni.com and then select "Alumni Directory Online."
