Academic college homecomings popular
Since the Alumni Association began featuring homecomings for individual constituency groups in 2002, attendance for these events has grown by more than 50 percent.
Usually held on the weekends of home football games, homecomings give alumni more opportunities to return to campus to be part of formal gatherings and to talk to representatives of their constituencies.
Fall 2008 will see seven college homecomings and homecomings for alumni of the corps of cadets and the Graduate School. Visit www.alumni.vt.edu for schedules and registration information.
Alumni Board met in May
The Alumni Association Board of Directors held its spring meeting on campus May 2-3. The board reviewed fall and spring reunion and constituency programs and the VirginiaTechforlife service project blood drives, and it received an update on plans for the future Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine.
Additionally, the board unanimously passed proposals favoring the creation of an Alumni Board Emeriti Society to recognize retiring board members and keep them more closely involved in the affairs of the association.
Approval also was given to hold Spirit of the Hokie Nation Service Days each April to encourage service activities that honor the university’s culture of service.
